18 Nov 2025

On Saturday the 21st of June, Kyle Gordon and Katrine Black took part in the 41st Highland Cross, a 50-mile duathlon split between 20 miles of running and 30 miles of cycling.

Traversing the spectacular Scottish Highlands coast to coast from west to east, the off-road and hilly running route set off from Melvich through to Glen Affric, before transitioning to the road cycle leg starting in Glen Affric and finishing in Beauly.

The event was organised by volunteers to raise vital funds for Highland Cross’s four chosen local charities, including Badenoch and Strathspey Community ConnXions, Highland Homeless Trust, Rag Tag and Textile, and Skye & Lochalsh Mental Health Association.

Kyle completed the duathlon in an incredible time of 3 hours and 54 minutes (3:54:03), placing him in an amazing 7th position overall. Katrine’s tremendous efforts also saw her finish the Highland Cross in a time of 6 hours 26 minutes (6:26:27).

Heather’s Heroes is proud to support Kyle and Katrine in their fundraising by match funding their sponsorship donations, which reached £2,000, to achieve a fantastic final total of £4,000.

John Valentine, Heather’s Heroes Board of Trustees Member, said: “We’re delighted to support Kyle and Katrine in their Highland Cross fundraiser, and contribute to the over £6.3 million that has been raised since the first event was held in 1983. Kyle and Katrine’s commitment, determination, and mental and physical strength that took them over the finish line is truly admirable”.

We’re delighted that Kyle’s next endurance challenge will be taking part in the NC500 Cycle between the 23rd-27th September as part of a core team of 8 cyclists, riding 100 miles a day for 5 consecutive days to raise vital funds for Heather’s Heroes.
